Colourisations

These initially began as a combination of challenging myself to see how well I could do them and also with a view to doing it some some degree of professionalism as a service on my old Albany Design website. (The website was later changed to only pub maps and now only redirects to the Orderaround site.)

This is a colourisation of a cover scan of the 2002 book “Alanbrooke War Diaries 1939-1945: Field Marshal Lord Alanbrooke”. I also had to carefully remove all the overlaying type as well. I remember that identifying the medal ribbons to get the colours right took some doing. (2011)
This was the only colourisation I ever got paid for. Some Doctor in Ireland came across my website and wanted this photo of him canoeing as a child to be colourised. There’s always a deceptively large amount of work, research and layers involved with this sort of thing. (2016)
This is an odd one because the photo was originally taken in colour. I then made it black and white and then re-colourised it without referring to the original photo until afterwards. I think this one worked really well. (2012)
This is a colourisation I made of a photo of my dad that was used on a West Yorkshire Police poster that was used to let people know who he was on his beat area of Wakefield City Centre. (2006)
This is a colourisation of my then-manager, as a child. (2012)
I decided to find some random semi-iconic B&W image to try and colourise. This is Betty Grable. I don’t think it was very good. (2012)
I was asked to do this by a neighbour for a friend of theirs. I initially said I wasn’t doing it anymore, but as is often the case, I wanted to know how it would turn out so did it anyway and without knowing how long it would take or what to charge if it worked out. I suggested £20 which is much less than it should be, but it’s £20 I wouldn’t have had before. (2021)
I had made a colourisation of this picture of me early in the 2000s but it wasn’t right (centre). Many years later I ran it through some software online and then enhanced it a bit more manually for a much better effect than I had originally managed about 20 years earlier. (2022)

I don’t expect to be doing any more colourising for any purpose in the future.
