Culture and Entertainment

This section could potentially be huge and is also likely to not capture anything like as much as I’ve ever liked. Also, much like anything in theses pages about me, it’s probably not really of any interest to anyone. Here are some pages about my tastes anyway.

Performing Arts

I cannot stand live theatrical performances, musicals or dance. It’s just not for me. As an adult I’ve only been to a theatre once to see a play or musical. I saw part of “Spamalot” but I left at the interval because I hated every single thing about the experience. I loathe musicals anyway, but even if it had been just a play I would probably have still left, even though I like Monty Python.

Literature

I almost entirely don’t read books of any kind. I can’t even get through ones that might be interesting and with pictures!
I haven’t read books for many years. And if I did, it would never be fiction. TV and Films are for that. I don’t feel like I have anything like the imagination required to bring a book to life in my own mind, and it’s too slow and boring to do. Perhaps it’s a poor thing to admit but that’s just how it is. It’s not going to change for me.
UPDATE: In 2022 I read Bob Mortimer’s autobiography and really enjoyed it, so followed it up with one by Jim Moir (Vic Reeves).

Podcasts

For many years I’ve listened to the following podcasts:

• The Skeptics Guide to the Universe
• The Adam Buxton Podcast
• Kermode & Mayo (in one form or another)

There are occasional other ones I’ll listen to, but they’re usually short series like excellent “13 Minutes to the Moon”, from the BBC rather than ones to subscribe to on along term basis.
