“Smile” Sign

The “Smile” sign.

Why

On the field opposite my house.

The Cheese sign that had gone stale.

When

June 2013.

Where

On the field opposite my house.

Smile sign location.

Materials / Media

White tape, blue spray paint.

Production

Fairly straightforward design.

The graphic as I had it on the PC.

Execution

Unlike the Cheese sign, I think I had the lettering lined up and taped together so it would go into place evenly.

Notes

Quite a jolly positive piece.

Duration & Fate

Corrosion, metal fatigue and probably some brute force had all but removed the sign by June 2014. I managed to rag the last bit out and retrieved it before Gypsies took it for scrap. I painted over the blue, waiting to make it into something else but it’s been in my back garden doing nothing since then. You can still see the raised lettering that it originally had.

Bent over and on shreds of rust in June 2014.
This was the state of the smile sign when it had been rescued before it fell over.
Languishing in my back garden in 2020.
