Computer and Console Games

I used to play computer games, sometimes a lot. I was never that good at them. I no-longer find time for playing games and it’s just as well as although they’re really enjoyable, I know they are an addictive time-sink. I’d rather create things myself than pointlessly immerse myself in the digital worlds of others. I’m tempted by VR, but I think I could easily become either obsessed or bored with it very quickly. Either way, it’s probably a bad expensive idea for me.

The first computer we had in the early 1980s seemed kind of brilliant at the time but it was astonishingly low in specification by today’s standards. The computer had just 5Kb of memory and 1.5Kb of that was used on the graphics and “operating system”. The display resolution was 128×128 pixels and we were bloody grateful for it.
Most of the time my brother and I had to use it on the 14” Black & White TV rather than the living room colour TV that was probably 24”. Games like “Cosmic Cruncher” or “Blitz” were ones we often played on but it pains me to even think about them.

Cosmic Cruncher (1982)
Commodore’s knock-off of Pac Man.
Blitz (1981)
An incredibly basic bombing game where the plane gets lower on each pass and you have to flatten the cityscape in order to land safely on flat ground. I’m not so sure that would work out so well in reality.
Cosmic Jailbreak (1982)
Another commodore knock-off . This one was emulating Space Invaders.

Let’s swiftly move on past this awfulness …
