Shelter – Sophistication

Shelter Sophistication.

Why

This was the first piece I did inside the shelter and was a reaction to the sorts of things kids were scrawling in there.

The first scrawls from kids to the shelter were slowly cleaned off by me using nail varnish remover.
The shelter interior getting some heavier shabby marker graffiti and paint.
As horrible as this is, it did make me laugh. She doesn’t just smell of fish. She LOVES smelling of fish.

When

July 2013.

Where

On the field opposite my house.

Shelter Sophistication location.

Materials / Media

Paper stencil, paint.

Production

Using a script typeface meant no short cuts with a scalpel and steel rule. Instead, it all had t be very carefully cut out freehand.

The slowly prepared stencil.

Execution

There’s always a lot more work involved than what the final piece might suggest.

Stencil and further masking in place.

Notes

Worked well enough and looked alright.

Duration & Fate

Not sure on duration but first response seemed to be calling me a “nerd”.

A response: “Nerd”.
Ha. Brilliant.
