Thoughts and Beliefs

Although I was never academic, I have developed a reasonable sense of scepticism and critical thinking. I have also sought out information from trustworthy sources to help me understand and determine the plausible from the implausible, the scientific from pseudoscience and fact from fake and folklore. It aggravates me that people can be so gullible as to believe some things.
I am indebted to television documentaries and podcasts such as “The Skeptics Guide To The Universe” for not only allowing me to distinguish reality from nonsense, but also for giving me the science, facts and logic and reasoning behind so much of the codswallop that has infested people’s minds.
Unfortunately, I never retain enough facts and figures or debating skills to refute may of these subjects when in an unexpected conversation. That can be frustrating on the rare occasion when I’m trying to debunk something to someone.
I have a hard time accepting that people will always have their own pet beliefs that there is no chance of relieving them of, irrespective of any level of constructive criticism.
Although there are hundreds of topics and areas that scepticism could cover, here are my thoughts on a few key subjects.
