Montages

(and Collages if we’re going to be more accurate)

Some of these are just random stuff, others are of people and pets etc.

“Hβn”. This was a nice colourful varied montage of things that had been scanned or found online. The “Hβn” was from a carton of Orange juice bought on holiday in Cyprus in 2000. The yellow fish in a tank was a child’s picture that had been converted to blocky graphics and was from a photo of a teletext page from about 1992. I could give some needless level of origin or detail for most things on here. (2004)
“Approved Sweets”. This was a similarly styled montage of lots of unrelated finds. I actually sold a copy of this from my website. Apart from a couple of family montages and my maps, this is the only artwork of mine that anyone has ever bought. I like these and I really think I should do a few more. (2010)
These were quite simple collage designs, but finding, choosing and adapting images to use still took longer than you’d think.
Mmm… sprinkles. (2006)
Another collage of random things with no connections or meanings. I could do more of these too. I don’t have any reason or purpose for them though.(2006)
Sadly my Dad never saw this as it was only created shortly after his death. It was put on display at the gathering in the pub after his funeral. It was well liked and I’m glad I made it as it featured a lot of times from his life. (2009)
I made this montage this for my mum’s 60th Birthday. (2011)
This collage of my photos was the first to use the adaptable voronoi cell shapes that I’d go on to use in other collages. (2016)
I made this for my brother’s 40th birthday. (2017)
This is a collection of 117 photos of me. I’d made one like this for a friend in 2011. I decided to make one for myself 6 years later. (2017)
This was just made up from random flowers and people’s faces. It was only ever meant to represent the sort of montage that I might be able to offer on my website as an example of a colourful family photo. I can’t remember if I ever put it on my old website though. (2009)
I still had a couple more happy years with Jelly at the time of making this montage. (2010)
My dog Hera was only 4 at the time of making this voronoi based collage. I have so many better photos of her since. This is on my living room wall at the time of this page being created in 2022. (2016)
This was one of a couple of different types of collage that were requested by the family of the old gent in the pictures, both before and after his death. They were the only ones to ever buy a photo collage from me. The first one I made had all the overlapping and merged layers and cut outs like the one I did of my dad. However, the photos they wanted for the second one had multiple people so I had to do something to avoid absolute chaos. Compartmentalisation and backgrounds were important so it worked much better to have a collage of frames. Finding images of different frames and preparing them for this collection took longer than you’d expect. (2016)
An absolute classic.

There’s a compilation of images I made to share on a now-defunct website I used to frequent called “IRC Images”. The site randomly scraped images from Internet Relay Chat Rooms and just presented them as an almost never-ending series of images for people to comment on, be indifferent to, enjoy, laugh at or be appalled by. There was a young woman from one meme (left) that I latched on to and recycled into many many other images relentlessly. Sometimes, the more shocking or related to other recent images on the site, the funnier it was.
I could have a gallery of all the separate images but that probably wouldn’t be worthwhile for anyone. Anyway, if you’re prepared for adult content of an extreme and often unpleasant nature and you’re in a safe space and expecting no explanations, you can see a large unblurred version of the above collage here.
