Shelter – Scratter

Scratter Shelter.

Why

I was getting fed up with the loutishness of the kids that frequented the shelter and the stuff they did in and around it, so I just thought I’d troll them.

When

June 2016.

Where

On the field opposite my house.

Scratter shelter location.

Materials / Media

Paper stencil, paint.

Production

Another time consuming stencil cut out by hand with a scalpel.

Template cut plan.

Execution

I blanked out the panel in white a few days ahead, but shortly before I headed out to put the stencil on, I witnessed someone turn up and paint a great big ugly tag on the shelter, unlike any amount of effort or size from anyone else that had gone before. I jut thought it was funny that their work hadn’t even dried before I painted over it in full white again! Before painting on the “Scratter Shelter”, I left the word ugly masked out on the tag, just to troll whoever might have done it.

I prepared my canvas a few days ahead, but it was hijacked…
Sadly for whoever did this tag, it only lasted about 20 minutes before I painted over it.
I masked out “Ugly” before doing the “Scratter Shelter” a few days later.

Notes

Not much really.

Duration & Fate

I didn’t expect it to last, but strangely, I think the kids embraced it. It was obscured by other graffiti by July 2017, so not too bad.

It eventually succumbed to further graffiti.
