Grim Reaper

In Leeds for Halloween, 2021.
In a cemetery around 1992.
A still from a terrible short film I made with my friends.
Trying out my new deathly robes.

Why

I loved the visual style of the Grim Reaper from Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life” and I wanted a costume of it.

The Grim Reaper from Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life” (1983).
A brilliant 17th century personification of death statue in the Cathedral of Trier, Germany.

When

1992, and several repairs since.

Elements

Robe, Cloak, a skull mask (papier mache one I made to begin with) or make-up, Skeletal gloves later on.

Amount of Work

Pattern making, cutting and sewing. I got my mum to help me with this too to save some time.

Level of use

A few random occasions in the 90s, but not really much for many years except for doling out sweets to kids at Halloween. I resumed using it in 2021.

Notes

The disused stage curtains liberated from my school. Also serves as robes for the Plague Doctor. Even with no previous skills or abilities, it wasn’t difficult to figure out a rudimentary pattern to make this long and baggy.

Future use

Probably.

Further usage
