About seven years ago, I thought about making a blue plaque, but couldn’t think what to base it on. While making the nameplate for the Hera Head Shed, I thought about it again and ended up making one in four parts, 450 mm across. I got a bit carried away with authenticity. Instead of making something silly, I made something like the plaque I might have if my various endeavours were 100 times more worthy and successful than they actually are. Which means I now have absolutely no way of putting it on an outside wall without looking like a massive egotistical, delusional idiot.
There was also a weird technical detour. I wanted the letters to flare out at the base like real plaques, and not just be straight), but I couldn’t get Blender or Fusion 360 to do it. ChatGPT ended up making me a little app that could turn vector lettering into the sort of 3D text I wanted. It’s bizarre that an AI chatbot could solve something that had defeated two very capable 3D design applications.
Even if I made the plaque better, I still don’t think there’s anything I could put on it about myself that would be reasonable. I’ll have to think of something ludicrous, and probably not about me. Though I’m not sure I’d want that on my house either.
