Colour Pole
Why
A typical sort of concept based on revitalising existing abandoned or dull structures that go unnoticed. I have a good collection of colourful spray paints and this was a dull old pole in a lonely part of the field. It will have either been about no tipping or no playing golf, but I’ve never known a time when the sign part had been attached.
When
July 2013
Where
On the field opposite my house. Of course.
.
Materials / Media
Paints and Black tape
Production
None required, apart from cutting down pieces of black and yellow insulation tape into thin strips.
Execution
In order to make any paint colours look vibrant, I began by giving the pole a couple of coats of white paint. I then masked parts off and sprayed band of various colours. I thought it needed some contrast and sharp lines so taped on various widths of black tape which added a lot more visual interest.
Notes
The paint did fade to some degree and although the tape may have come of of its own accord in time, I’m pretty sure someone had a go at removing a load of it.
Duration & Fate
At some point or other I painted the pole white again but didn’t do anything with in. So now it just looks white with rust coming through most of it.
