Why

There was a sign that read that read “THE PLAYING OF GOLF STROKES IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN THIS AREA BY ORDER – DIRECTOR OF PARKS”. No-one really tried playing golf on the field. That was for one of two reasons. Either the sign worked very well, or no-one wanted to in the first place. Either way, putting something else on it was going to be more fun.

I made a simple design with a bite mark taken out of it and made some measurements that I could mark off on the sign to correspond with positions of letters from the design.

Execution

Some or all of the letters eventually fell off so it was time to overhaul it and so something else. It became the “Smile Sign” in June 2013. Severe corrosion and some force from youths (no doubt) eventually caused the sign to be knocked over and held on by the slightest of rusty tatters, so I removed it completely and I still have it cluttering up my back garden in 2020 waiting for it to be re-deployed somewhere as something else.

A nice rich yellow colour used. Looks far better than if pure yellow had been used.
