Retro Adverts

These began as a bit of fun in the summer of 2018. I had a scrapbook of vintage adverts taken from some magazines from the 1970s and 1980s found in clear-out of stuff whilst I was at Wakefield College in 1993. I found some further vintage adverts online and made them into a 2020 calendar. This page features the random ones and the calendar ones all together.

This was an early one and a really good fit, I think.
A good photo-fit but not a great advert.
Four of me for the price of one here.
This face photo was recycled from my carp calendar.
Advertisers have been crowbarring in attractive young women into adverts for all kinds of products for a long time.
He’s giving her the horn. Of course.
Looks like a young Jennifer Saunders to me.
A fairly basic ‘shop job here.
Not much to say about this one.
This is great. The photo fits perfectly and looks more suitable than even the original did.
I donned a fake moustache for the photo for this, to try and emulate the original advert.
I’m sure this product was crap even when it was produced. And the advert in a bath is ludicrous. It probably would have knacked the device if it got a few molecules of water near it.
In later calendars, I would probably have replaced the ladies’ faces with mine too.
I think my expression works well on this advert.
Not really a vintage or retro advert, but certainly one that caused a backlash.
This was an advert for a two early computer games that were never even released.
Camper than a row of tents.
This is a really good one. Who came up with these adverts?
Not one of the best, but I had to include it.
I can’t imagine this vulgar watch worked out for anyone, and what straight man would want a naked man on his wrist anyway?
I think this is one of the best ones.
A fairly dull one to be honest.
I inserted myself into another an empty seat on this early 1990s cigarette advert. I thought it would be funny to do it naked and with a wig, in the style of Terry Jones on the organ from Monty Python.
I inserted myself into another an empty seat on this early 1990s cigarette advert. I think it worked really well.
A 2022 calendar I made for my Mum and stepdad. I’m pleased to say that it was very well received.
The calendar recycled some of the adverts I’d used for myself.

I may make some more retro adverts for a future calendar.
